Members of Soroptimist International of Bellflower have built a reputation of continuing service and support of women and youth in our community. Our desire to make a difference for women and girls worldwide, our willingness to work together and our positive spirit are our greatest assets.

We know that together we can make a greater change than each of us could individually. Why Women and Girls?

Consider the following:

●	One in three women have been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in their lifetime
●	According to a recent report, of the 600,000-800,000 people trafficked across international borders annually, 80 percent are female.
●	Women work two-thirds of the world's working hours but earn only 10 percent of the world's income, and own less than 1 percent of the world's property.
●	Of a total 550 million working poor, 330 million (60 percent) are women.
●	Two-thirds of the 880 million illiterate adults are women.
●	Of the more than 110 million children not in school, approximately 60 percent are girls.
●	By age 18, girls have received an average of 4.4 years less education than boys.
●	An estimated 450 million adult women in developing countries are stunted, a direct result of malnutrition in early life.

Women who want to help improve the lives of women and girls who are less fortunate or are in need of a helping hand. Women who want to be a part of an organization that not only improves the lives of women and girls in their local communities but around the world. Women who want to be a part of something bigger.

Our Club History

Founded in 1953, Soroptimist International of Bellflower is a volunteer service organization for women of all ages, cultures and ethnic groups. Members in our club represent a wide variety of professions including social workers; insurance agents; realtors; accountants; office managers; bankers; and volunteers. Soroptimist International of Bellflower is a part of a world-wide organization with almost 76,000 members in 132 countries and territories who contribute time and financial support to community-based and international projects benefiting women and girls. Soroptimist International is the world’s largest classified service organization for women. The organization sponsors a number of international projects designed to improve the status of women and girls throughout the world. Members of Soroptimist International of Bellflower support both the international and local community projects by providing financial assistance and hands-on time and talent.

Being a member of Soroptimist International of Bellflower provides an enriching environment that allows lasting friendships to form as well as increasing networking opportunities, all while making both the local community and the world a better place through the service that is provided. Our name, Soroptimist, means best for women. And that’s who we are – women at our best, helping other women to be their best.
